Angela is a mother of three children, one born in hospital and two born at home. She graduated from the Seattle
Midwifery School in December of 2006. After graduating, Angela completed the PLEA, a necessary process to
become a Registered Midwife in BC. Angela's training at the Seattle Midwifery School focused on both home and
birth centre births, leaving her very comfortable with out hospital care. She has also acquired hospital experience both here in Victoria, and in the Caribbean. Angela holds privileges at the
Victoria General Hospital working with both home and hospital birth clients. She is currently up-grading her homeopathic knowledge through The British Institute of Homeopathy – Canada. Before attending midwifery school Angela worked as a doula, breastfeeding counselor, and childbirth educator. Angela's philosophy focuses on using lifestyle, nutrition and homeopathic remedies to promote well-being.
I grew up near Ottawa and have been living in B.C. since 2006. When I was 10, I began reading stories about birth and developed a strong interest in pregnancy. During this time, I read my mum’s copy of Spiritual Midwifery so many times that it was reduced to a stack of loose pages. It took a few more years for me to discover the role of midwives in our Canadian health care system, and since then I have fallen in love with the profession.

I witnessed my first birth at 16, while volunteering as a doula for young mothers in Ottawa. After moving to B.C., I was a counsellor for several years at the Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan on Vancouver Island, working with children with disabilities. Since then I have maintained a great interest in the disability community, especially where disability rights and accessibility issuesintersect with midwifery care. In 2007 I volunteered at a rural medical clinic in the mountains of Madagascar, where I had the privilege of assisting with prenatal care, births, and general medical care.
I received my four-year degree in Midwifery from the Faculty of Medicine at UBC Vancouver. My clinical training sent me to Vancouver, Victoria, and Kelowna. I spent two months catching babies in Nepal, where I learned about the challenges of providing maternity care in low-resource settings. I also spent time at BC Women’s Hospital working with pregnant and postpartum women facing issues with substance use. I am looking forward to coming to Victoria after having spent a wonderful period of time working with women and families at Malachite Midwives in Kelowna, BC.
In my spare time, I keep busy painting, cooking, biking, practicing yoga, and playing the violin and guitar. I love exploring the outdoors and I recently trekked to the summit of a Himalayan mountain at 16,400ft in Nepal.
As a midwife, I am honoured to learn from and care for pregnant women and their families. Providing your midwifery care is deeply meaningful to me, and I am truly thankful for the opportunity to participate in your experience.
